Laura Hussey, BVetMed, MRCVS
Veterinarian & Owner
Dr. Laura Hussey joined Sandwich Animal Hospital as its new owner on April 1st, 2025, bringing with her not only years of experience but a deep love for community-centered care. While working on the South Coast after the COVID pandemic, she was searching for a place to settle down and found the perfect fit in Sandwich. She has thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the clients, pets, and stories that make this practice and community so special!

Laura Hussey, BVetMed, MRCVS
Veterinarian & Owner
Dr. Laura Hussey joined Sandwich Animal Hospital as its new owner on April 1st, 2025, bringing with her not only years of experience but a deep love for community-centered care. While working on the South Coast after the COVID pandemic, she was searching for a place to settle down and found the perfect fit in Sandwich. She has thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the clients, pets, and stories that make this practice and community so special!
Her journey into veterinary medicine began with a neighbor’s Appaloosa horse named Sunday, who suffered from chronic health issues. One day, Laura noticed something wrong with Sunday’s eye before anyone else did and was praised by the attending veterinarian for catching the issue early. From that moment, Laura knew she had a special gift to explore and that she wanted to care for animals for the rest of her life.
Dr. Hussey earned her undergraduate degree from Delaware Valley College in Pennsylvania, a small agricultural school known for its hands-on learning and strong animal science programs. After graduation, she spent time working and traveling, gaining valuable life experience before pursuing her veterinary degree. She went on to attend the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in London, England, one of the most prestigious and historic veterinary schools in the world.
In practice, Dr. Hussey has a special interest in dermatology, inspired in part by her dog Rascal, a “Florida Special” rescue with chronic allergies. She’s passionate about helping anxious pets feel more at ease during their visits and enjoys helping pet owners understand the care she is providing, making even complex topics feel approachable.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Hussey is a devoted aunt, enthusiastic gardener, and proud duck owner. Her backyard flock began when an animal control officer brought a sick, injured duck into the clinic. Dr. Hussey took her home to recover, then decided she had to keep her. That one duck became two, and then ten. Now, the flock is part of her daily life. You may even hear about their antics during one of your appointments!
She also enjoys growing fresh peas and cherry tomatoes with her nieces. You might even see her dad helping out at Sandwich Animal Hospital to keep the lawn looking beautiful.
At heart, Dr. Hussey is a community vet, here to listen, teach, support, and care for pets and the people who love them.
