Spring is officially here! At this time of year, many people are rolling up their sleeves for some spring cleaning. Of course, if you have a pet, you may find yourself with a few extra chores on your to-do list. A local Bourne, MA vet offers a few spring cleaning tips in this article.
Stuffed animals that are still in decent shape can be machine washed and hung or tumbled dry, as can tennis balls. You’ll also want to wash your furry buddy’s bedding and, if applicable, their clothing. If possible, use a hypoallergenic detergent and hot water, and tumble dry.
Your four-legged friend’s dishes should be cleaned daily. However, you may need to clean their feeding stations, treat jars, and/or fountains. Rubber toys can be washed in the dishwasher on the hot cycle, without soap.
Spring is also a peak shedding time. Vacuuming daily will help you stay ahead of your pet’s wardrobe change. If you want to get fur off your carpets or upholstery, use a squeegee, rubber gloves, or a damp sponge. You’ll also be doing both yourself and your pet a big favor by brushing them regularly. That will trap that dead fur in the brush before it gets stuck to, well, everything. (Tip: it’s not a bad idea to use furniture covers at this time of year.)
Does your canine pal track mud into the house? Put bath mats both outside and inside the door that you take Fido in and out of. You may also want to teach your dog that he gets a yummy treat for letting you clean his paws. From there, you may be able to teach your pooch to wipe his own feet down!
Don’t forget about Fluffy! If your feline friend has a cat tower, give it a thorough vacuuming. Or better yet, steam clean it. You’ll also want to take your kitty’s litterbox outside and give that a good scrubbing as well.
Does your canine buddy make nose art on your windows? Vinegar and newspaper will make quick work of Fido’s doggy masterpieces.
