5 Ways To Promote Good Animal Welfare This Holiday Season

December 1 2021

The holidays are a season for reflecting, and spending time with our loved ones. They are also a season of giving. If you love animals, you may want to consider doing some things to help promote good animal welfare. A local Bourne, MA vet lists a few ways to do that below.

Support Animal Rescues

Many animal rescues and charities depend on donations to keep running. You can’t go wrong with a monetary donation, as the shelter will be able to funnel the funds to where they need it. However, if you prefer to do something a bit more tangible, you can also donate supplies. Most shelters always need things like beds, towels, toys, dishes, food, treats, and cat litter. Just check with them first to find out about policies and procedures for donation dropoffs, as things may still be running a little differently due to the pandemic.

Craft

The holidays are a busy time for crafters. Homemade gifts are always extra special, because of all the work and thought put into them. There are plenty of things you can make for animals. Kitties in shelters always need toys and beds. Wild birds can always use birdhouses, while a shelter dog might like playing with a rope toy you made out of an old tee shirt.

Host Events

There’s no shortage of great organizations that are working hard to try and protect animals, and improve their lives and welfare. Consider hosting or helping with a local event that will benefit one of them. This can be anything from a simple bake sale to an online auction to a craft show.

Celebrate Wildlife

You can also do things to help the wild animals in our area. A few examples would include setting out birdfeeders, helping with beach cleanups, supporting our local wildlife rehabilitation organizations, reducing the use of harmful chemicals, and cutting back on single-use plastics and packaging.

Volunteer

If you have some extra time, you may want to consider volunteering or even fostering. This can be an extremely rewarding thing to do. Reach out to local shelters or wildlife organizations to learn more.

Spread The Word

Raising awareness is also a great way to help. Share relevant posts on social media. Every little bit counts!
